Menstrual problems
Menstrual problems include period pain, heavy periods, irregular periods, stopped or missed periods, premenstrual syndrome, mentral migraine, endometriosis, and ovulation pain.
More information about period problems can be found on the NHS website, including when you should see your GP.
Before you see your GP, it can be useful to keep a diary of your symptoms throughout the menstrual cycle. This can give your doctor a detailed idea of what happens, and when, during your cycle.
There are many ways to mange heavy periods. One way is by fitting a hormonal coil device, or IUS. From November 2024 GP surgeries will be funded by the NHS to do this work. If your surgery doesn't fit IUDs, they can refer you to another provider.
